Draft a dashboard with AI
How do I have AI draft a dashboard for me to edit?
Elly wants a dashboard for the weekly depot meeting but does not want to set up each chart. She describes it in a sentence and has AI draft it, then tidies it up before publishing.
Before you start
- AI is on for the workspace: a workspace owner or admin has switched on Metadata features under More → AI.
- The plan includes AI drafting: Growth, Business or Enterprise, or any Norims plan with AI. On the trial and Starter the tab reads Draft with AI (Growth) and cannot be selected.
- You have the editor or admin role in the project.
A draft uses three AI actions from the workspace's monthly allowance, or one when nothing could be built.
Draft the dashboard
- Open Projects, select the project, and select New dashboard.
- Choose the Draft with AI tab.
- Describe the dashboard, here "Revenue by facility and by month, and the best-selling items". You can write up to 1,000 characters.
- Select Draft. It reads Drafting… while AI works.
The dialog notes "AI-generated draft · built only from your metrics · review before publishing". AI only uses measures and dimensions from the project's metric models and the workspace's shared datasets, leaving out any marked Hidden.
Check what was built
Vantage confirms with Draft created and opens the new dashboard in the builder as a Draft, named by AI. Nobody else sees it until you publish.
The draft has up to 12 widgets, two to a row, each a number, bar, line, table or pie. AI never guesses: anything you asked for that your metrics cannot answer is left out and listed in the confirmation as "Not built:" with what was missing. If nothing could be built at all, Vantage says "Nothing could be built from that" and creates no dashboard.
Edit the draft like any other: change titles and charts in the right panel, move and resize widgets, add what was not built (see Build a draft). Then publish it.
To have a whole set of dashboards, views and models drafted for your data at once, use a starter pack instead (see Starter packs and templates).
